Once upon a time, not so long ago or far away, there was a game called Sissyfight. Originally a semi-serious psychological experiment, it developed into a way for most people with a suitable computer to get together, try to accumulate points in the game, arrange to meet up, and generally discuss stuff, if they wished to do so.
Now, since it became clear that certain restrictions were required, there was an Honor Code. If the Sissies knew of apparent violations, they were encouraged to report the supposed offending parties, together with evidence if possible. And second only to the prohibition on multisessioning was the understanding that offensive comments and personal attacks would not be tolerated. Veritas, claiming that the grounds for attack were true and consequently hateful comments were justified, was no excuse. Certain ways of life, while formerly having been considered "wrong", were now merely "different".
One day, one perceptive Sissy noticed that although this ruling went into detail on several points, one important aspect had been left out. It was all the more important because while relating to an alternative lifestyle, this one was still largely considered "wrong" both within the community and in society in general (although the precise ruling was highly variable). But, this Sissy reasoned, while perhaps warranting prohibition on the site, it should still come under the umbrella on tolerance. Indeed, precisely because it was not there, it was all the more likely to be a target for those who could no longer express their prejudice against those groups that were protected. He decided to raise the point with the others.
Unfortunately, he didn't pick the best time. Firstly, this occurred to him just after he himself was involved in activities which, when taken together, could be interpreted in such a manner. Secondly, it took place just before he went off for a week's break; and when he got back, he found that he had been banned without being allowed to clear up the confusion.
It was not a time for metaphysical enquiry. Speculations as to why he had said what he did, what he had meant by it, or indeed whether he had said it at all, were irrelevant. Opinions differed, and there may be those to this day who believe there's no smoke without fire, and can't tell the difference between a crime against convention ("that's not how we do things here") and more serious issues.
Nevertheless, he remained loyal in his way, and not wishing to split the community or further antagonise those in charge, he accepted his ban, knowing that the administration was firm but fair, and would not let the other Honor Code violators off any more lightly.
And was it true? You can think what you like: that's understandable. But he'd prefer it to be for the right reasons. That's the part they won't tell you. Still, if they insisted, then so be it, and honi soit qui mal y pense : he would become -- Kiddyfiddler!
Some say he came here, and has been hanging around ever since, remaining in contact with those who really cared about what he said, and hoping that the day will never come when he has to say, "I warned you that something like this could still happen".
